Propos
"The auditorium slowly fades to black. The audience is enveloped in sound, placed within a forest where rain begins to fall. One can distinctly hear droplets hitting the leaves, then sense the moisture pouring onto the ground and the rumble of a distant storm. Eventually, the rain subsides, leaving only the wind—the sound of wind moving through the leaves. It feels almost chilly; the scent of damp moss hangs in the air.
This introductory sequence, played out in darkness, establishes a sense of extended time and total immersion. The stage is bare—white flooring, black masking curtains—featuring a dark, thick mass suspended in the space that drapes heavily toward the floor, resembling an organic casing somewhere between a shed skin and tree bark. Three barely perceptible performers are already at work; we discern them by the sounds against their skin and the rhythm of their breathing. They speak to one another, though the meaning of their words remains unclear. Their movements are precise—seemingly repeated tirelessly—and serve to connect them. We are clearly witnessing a ritual."
