POSITION

« As the daughter of a couple of magicians, I draw on these personal memories in POSITION, my third solo piece.
In it, I continue my exploration of the exposure of bodies, focusing in particular on a singular figure: the magician’s assistant.
Visible yet unassuming, offered yet manipulated, this figure becomes the starting point for a work on bodies as functions, bodies as objects.
Between illusion, desire, and consumption, the body becomes a surface for projection, in a world permeated by the notion of metaphorical sexual butchery.

I’m wearing a long red sequined dress. Black sneakers. Two lights shine on me from either side. A roll of white gaffer tape lies on the floor. I’m in the center, facing the audience. I’m holding a microphone in one hand, a knife in the other. I’m standing next to a microphone stand. A roasted chicken is hanging from the microphone stand. I bend my right leg. My lower back arches. My pelvis shifts off-axis. My head falls backward. I imagine a line between my tailbone and the back of my head. I straighten up. I start again. POSITION begins like this. »
