This year, the NEUFNEUF Festival is offering masterclasses with choreographers featured in the programme, aimed primarily at professional dancer-performers from the region.
In echo of the re-creation of (Je n'ai pas eu le temps d'y penser), c'est arrivé!, for 4 young dancers fresh from the CDCN La Place de la Danse training programme, Jérôme Brabant invites you to explore the material of this piece inspired by the punk movement. How can disorder be created in the body, starting from a demanding technique? Between disjointed movements and sharp, structured lines.
The day begins with a warm-up engaging different motor sources, points of support and joints, to make body and mind available. Then we'll dance to some big BOOm Boom BOOm BoOm Boom!

Jérôme Brabant
Born in La Réunion in 1973.
After studying theatre at the University of Paris 8, he trained at the Marcel Marceau School of Mime from 1996 to 1999, then took part in the Extensions professional training programme at the Centre de Développement Chorégraphique Toulouse / Midi-Pyrénées in 2001. He worked with Compagnie Melk Prod / Marco Berrettini from 2001 to 2006, performing in the pieces L'opérette sans sou, si…, New movements for old bodies and Clo-clopinettes. Jérôme also collaborated with Patricia Ferrara / Groupe Unber-Humber, dancing in all of their creations from 2004 to 2010. From 2005 to 2007 he also performed with Compagnie Samuel Mathieu, and worked in theatre with Lisa Guédy in 2008.
With Marion Muzac, he founded UND und ballet […], together creating Roomy Dancing in 2002, GALA in 2003 and Pavillon in 2004.
In 2010, Jérôme began an ongoing collaboration with Mié Coquempot, Compagnie K622. In 2011, he founded the company L'Octogonale.
From formal rigour to the shores of punk anarchy, the piece explores the notion of heritage in dance, through an exuberant journey spanning the late 1970s to the arrival of techno. "Starting from a rigorous technique, how can disorder be created?" asks the choreographer, who draws on Karole Armitage, a specialist in explosive fusions, as well as on an entire generation of choreographers — from Michael Clark to Régine Chopinot — who witnessed the punk wave firsthand. In this exploration, dance becomes turmoil, a disjointed whirlwind. At other times, by contrast, it traces sharp, structured movements. Playing with the deconstruction of physical support and balance, Jérôme Brabant cultivates an art of mixing and contrast, not without humour and fantasy. Classical influences, modern grammar and a contemporary vocabulary intertwine, initiating a shared language that, even as it emerges, is already being reshaped by other forces and experiences. The three young performers throw themselves headlong into this insatiable, restless choreography, carried by Gustine's electro music.
This re-creation thus displays a shifting identity that expresses itself joyfully, in a maelstrom of gestures bursting with energy.
Technically light, this piece can be performed in spaces not originally designed for dance.
