LES MAQUETTES

Professional gathering co-organised with Occitanie en Scène

RING – scène périphérique - Toulouse

Propos

"Les Maquettes," co-organised with Occitanie en Scène, is a professional highlight dedicated to live performance professionals. Through screenings of work-in-progress trials around an artist's or artistic team's upcoming project, it offers a chance to discover their work and understand their approach, while giving the project's creator an opportunity to promote their work as a choreographer.
3 artists will present a maquette on this occasion:
Jéhane Hamm / Léa Leclerc / Mathilde Papin

Propos

ECHINE – Jéhane Hamm

Body as support, transformed, a play of bodily materials, schematic body, dissected zones of the body, body laid bare.
"I wanted to explore, starting from the sensation of my spine, different mobilities, worlds, imaginaries and poetics. For this new creation, I give voice to the back, to what lies behind, to what isn't always visible, to what hides, to the unspoken." "Echine" (spine/backbone) evokes the back — both of the human being and of the animal. The body on stage is no longer simply a woman's body, but a body as matter.

LIKE ME – Léa Leclerc

To be recognised, loved, even envied — desires intimately tied to this need for interaction. Digital social networks were born from this very need; they feed on it, and have even reinforced it, to the point of becoming, for some, indispensable spaces for displaying an image of success and happiness — whether or not that image reflects reality. It is precisely from this "or not" that the choreographer, from the Gard region, chose to dig deeper. The question of identity, always more complex than what we choose to show, thus returns as the driving force behind a play of opposing impulses, of contrasting movements and dynamics.
Text by Olivier Hespel for the Uzès Danse festival, June 2022

TROIS COLLIERS – Mathilde Papin

If tinkering means making do with what's at hand, mixing heterogeneous materials, bending things slightly so they fit together, then there also exist tinkered activities, tinkered conversations, tinkered dances, tinkered customs. One might, for instance, combine existing gestural practices into one: engaging at once in tinkering (moving, linking, fitting together) and in choreographic gesture (whether traditional, figurative or abstract). One might draw elements from our customs, from the most everyday (greeting one another, talking, cracking a joke) to the rarest (putting on a fête, singing in a choir, cracking a joke). We will also work with objects — the kind we keep in a corner "because they might always come in handy." So, for example, small offcuts of wood, with their geometric shapes, will become part of invented interactions. This is where fiction comes in: we might act as though we were a credible culture with invented customs. In real life, we could — as much as we like, after all — let customs proliferate, customs that dislodge, as though under the effect of laughter, a few bones in the brain.

Parcours

Jéhane Hamm – ECHINE

She trained in Toulouse across various schools: Darissia, La Place de la Danse – CDCN, and with James Carlès. She studied under several teachers, notably Marion Muzac, Christophe Legoff, Mark Thompkins, Oona Doherty, Jackie Taffanel and Bruno Danjoux. After her training, she developed a regular practice of improvisation and spontaneous composition, which led her to create her first two performances, "O," supported by isdaT (Institut Supérieur des Arts de Toulouse) and the Centre Culturel Alban Minville, and "The flow out" — out of which grew a strong desire to develop a choreographic language of her own. In 2017, echoing her interest in the image of movement, the project La Ramée and the concept of "living cinema" (blending dance and film) came to life. The project went on to the Avignon Festival Off in 2018, at La Scierie. She subsequently developed an outside-eye practice, notably for Marion Muzac's Let's Folk.
In 2019/2020, she took part in the Choreographers' Incubator, where she began the project Echine with La Fabrique de la Danse in Paris, as well as with partners in Toulouse such as Mix'Art Myrys and the Centre Culturel Alban Minville. Since 2020, she has been pursuing the Recherche en danse (Dance Research) programme at Paris 8, refining and developing research around bodily materials.
In October 2022, she will take part in the Royaumont choreographic laboratory.

Léa Leclerc – LIKE ME

Trained in classical technique under Catherine Lebrun, Léa Leclerc joined the Jeune Ballet d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux in 2015. In 2017, she founded the company Patchwork, within which she developed several solos: L'ESPACE D'UN TEMPS (2017), Y'A DES CHOSES OU AVOIR ENVIE DE DIRE DES CHOSES (2020) and PAUL (2021). A choreographer supported by La Maison CDCN Gard Occitanie and artistically mentored by choreographer David Wampach, she completes, in 2022, a new solo: LIKE ME. This mentorship continues through the 2022–23 season as part of the "mentorship of a young choreographer" scheme set up by the Ministry of Culture, from which Léa Leclerc benefits.

Mathilde Papin – TROIS COLLIERS

She is a choreographer and dancer. Trained in circus arts and dance (Fratellini, ACTS) and in philosophy at the Sorbonne, she also conducts artistic research around dance and performance. In 2019, she founded the company RIVE with Emma-Rose Bigé. She teaches dance and runs workshops around the scores and games she uses to choreograph.
Between 2018 and 2021, she co-choreographed SEREIN with musician Rémi Blanes and performers Arthur Amard and Daphné Achermann. Her encounter with Loïc Touzé proved decisive for her work; he hosted her research and creations at Honolulu in Nantes and at the "Le Grand Huit" festival. Together with Emma-Rose Bigé, she co-translated philosopher Erin Manning's book Always More Than One, and published a philosophy article in "Pour un atlas de figures." She also writes poetry, with two texts currently being published.
